Library offers activities for adults; Mango Languages

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, author visits, crafting, and book clubs. Now that the summer reading program has concluded, youth programs are taking a break in August so that staff can review patron feedback from the summer events and prepare for the upcoming fall programs and activities, which will resume in September. Programs for adults are ongoing. Here is a closer look at the upcoming events at the library:
Boyle County Writers
On Tuesday, August 13 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this monthly event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)
Kentucky Career Center Job Assistance
Preparing for a new career? Alicia Mullins with the Kentucky Career Center will be available at the library on the second Wednesday of each month to help with resumes, job applications, and interview preparation. The next session will be held on Wednesday, August 14 from 3:00-5:00 PM in the Map Room. Appointments and walk-ins are welcome. Third Thursday Book Club
In August the book club will be reading High Society by Donald Spoto. Join the book discussion on Thursday, August 15 at 10:30 AM in the Conference Room. (Ages 18+)
Gallery Exhibit: “Adventure Begins at Your Library” Opening Reception
We invite you to see the fun and creativity that our community had during this year’s Summer Reading Program: “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” This unique exhibit will feature art projects and photos from our many programs offered this summer. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, August 15 from 6:30-7:30 PM. The exhibit will be on display August 14-30, 2024 in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery. (All ages)
Online Resource: Mango Languages
In addition to programs, the library offers numerous resources for the community. Mango Languages is a personalized, adaptive language-learning experience that provides the tools and guidance you need to expand your language skills. Powered by intelligent technology and an adaptive algorithm, Mango empowers its users to communicate with confidence. Each online lesson combines real life situations and audio from native speakers with simple, clear instructions. The courses are presented with an appreciation for cultural nuance and real-world application by focusing on the four key elements of language learning: vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and culture. Mango offers access to over 70 world language courses, including English, Spanish, and Italian. Mango Languages can be accessed for free with a valid BCPL library card number.
