William “Bill” Estes Pendergrass passed peacefully on September 6, 2024. He was born to Eva Coates and Archibald Pendergrass in Nelson County over 95 years ago. His grandparents, Harvey and Arteminsia met at the Kentucky School for the Deaf, and moved to Nelson County shortly after marriage. He was preceded in death by 4 sisters, Estelle, Helen Faye, Tillie, and Polly, brother Arch Jr., and great granddaughter Carolyn. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janet Curtis Pendergrass. He is also survived by his children Betty, Paul (Charlotte), Mark, Jeannie (Ken), Tom West and Rodney West; 10 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. He will be remembered by all for his wit and sense of humor and for his overwhelming kindness, generosity, and heart. Bill worked for the telephone company from 1948 until retirement in 1985. With the nickname “2 wire” he had a keen interest in how things worked and loved to dismantle and reassemble just about anything whether mechanical, electrical, or technological, but he preferred a corded telephone. He loved his family deeply, had many lifetime friendships, and created a strong sense of being at home in his presence for all that loved him. His keen intellect, curiosity, and care for others continued until the very end. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church and Past Master of Duvall Lodge #6. Funeral services will be 2pm Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm-until service time on Tuesday, with a Masonic Service at 1:45pm. Pallbearers are Chris Unseld, Jill Abney, Laura Schriver, Michael Abney, Morgan Abney, Jessica Pendergrass, Lance Pendergrass, Jennifer Lanham, Dana Maupin, and Lauren Walker. Memorial contributions are preferred to Heritage Hospice. www.preston-pruitt.com
