During the Perryville City Council meeting on Sept. 5, Perryville Mayor Rob Kernodle explained that he has heard requests from citizens about restarting a neighborhood watch in Perryville after some recent instances of criminal activity in town.

Perryville Chief of Police Parker Hatter said that Perryville PD is open to the idea, but it needs to be a community effort.

“It will need to be a citizen-driven effort,” Hatter said. It is difficult for us to oversee the neighborhood watch when we already are the neighborhood watch. We are all for it, but it needs to be citizen-driven. I would absolutely encourage it if they want it. We will help out any way we can, but it can’t be us leading the effort.”

Kernodle and Hatter will have more information on starting the neighborhood watch at a future meeting.

In other news from the meeting, it was announced that the Perryville Road waterline project is in the wrap up stages and should be fully completed by next month.

The council voted to approve an ordinance allowing medical cannabis businesses to operate in Perryville. The ordinances follow the same guidelines set forth by the Boyle County Fiscal Court, which are based on state guidelines.
