Fall color will decorate the trees and fire hydrants in September
It is time to paint the town, well at least some parts of it. The Arts Commission was asked by the City to freshen up the fire hydrants, many of which haven’t had a spruce up since the Vice Presidential debate several years ago.
A chance conversation at Farmers’ Market with an employee of DecoArt in Stanford, got the ball rolling. He connected us with Rosemary Reynolds who got their design team involved in the project. The city fire hydrants will have fabulous new faces with their design ideas.
Several hydrants have already been adopted. Stephanie Blevins and the United Way staff have added the project to the Day of Caring. A group of seniors from Danville Christian Academy has adopted five hydrants as part of their service class and will begin work on Sept. 17th. Hydrant artists may register through the United Way website, but if that day is not convenient, volunteers can contact the Arts Commission directly for information on the process.
Our goal is to complete the project in September. However, October is always a pleasant month for outdoor activities. The initial target area is the downtown corridor in Danville. However, there is plenty room and time for community creativity! Junction City and Perryville are included in the project and will be scheduled in conjunction with the Fire Department .
