Danville’s unfortunate run continued Friday as Knox Central handed the Admirals a 33-0 defeat.
It was the third straight shutout loss for Danville, which showed some significant improvement in both its defense and offense but still lacked what they needed to gain the win at Andy Frye Stadium.
Danville coach Frank Parks Jr. said the Admirals let their emotions get the best of them both on and off the field.
“We’re too emotional. Every game some of us continue to let our emotions get the best of us and that ends up costing us the game,” Parks said.
Parks said the Admirals let their sideline arguments and feelings about the game affect the way they play on the field.
Knox (3-2) opened the game by establishing its running attack on a long drive that consumed most of the first quarter, and Brayden Sizemore ran 13 yards to the end zone for the Panthers’ first score.
Once the Admirals got the ball, they fell back on the field and ending up punting on a fourth-and-long situation.
The second quarter began another Knox drive in which it gained multiple first downs, but Keaghan Jones led Danville with multiple tackles throughout the quarter, stalling the Panthers’ scoring chances.
Lucas Alveras and Zach Carroll added rushing touchdowns to give Knox a 19-0 lead before Danville’s offense gained two first downs in a row late in the second quarter.
In the third quarter, the Admirals got another first down but missed a chance to score, then got another defensive stop when Jones and David Shelton teamed up for a tackle for loss that left the Panthers facing fourth-and-long.
Knox rebounded to possess the ball for almost the entire fourth quarter before Sizemore got his third touchdown of the game and his second of the second half with 3:40 remaining.
Danville’s ground game showed improvement with 108 rushing yards, up significantly from minus-8 in the Admirals’ loss to Mercer County a week earlier.
Knox ran for 380 yards.
