Albert Taylor

Albert was born April 14, 1928 in Harrodsburg, KY. He was one of two children born to Mr. Fred Taylor and Mrs. Jeanetta Taylor. Albert Lee professed hope in Christ at the age of nine and united with First Baptist Church Harrodsburg, KY. Al attended West Side High School in Harrodsburg, KY graduating from high school in 1946. He attended Western Kentucky Training School in Paducah, KY. It was there he learned carpentry, graduating in 1948. He did carpentry work until being drafted in the United State Army Infantry in 1950. After completing basic training, he came home on leave and married his sweet heart, Myrtle Arlene Faulkner. They were blessed with two beautiful girls, Francine Taylor and Alberta Taylor. After leave, he went on to Japan and was put with the 34th Regiment Combat Team to train on Mount Fuji. After training to go into combat, he went into Chon, Korea where he fought in many battles. Al received several medals and three Bronze Battle Stars. He engaged in battles at Heartbreak Ridge, Old Baldy, Iron Triangle and The Punch Bowl. Al served two tours in Korea. He was a Staff Sergeant and served as a Platoon Sergeant and a Drill Sergeant. After being discharged from the Army of the United States of America, Al had seven years of service. He went to work for Corning Glass Works. Al retired from Corning and served on The Boyle County Human Rights Commission. He was a Kentucky Colonel, Pioneer of Harrodsburg, a lifetime member of the Glass Works Union, lifetime member of the VFW, nominee for The Civil Rights Hall of Fame, a concerned citizen for human rights, a member of the NAACP, a member of the Lions Club, and a Master Mason. Al served as an ordained deacon at First Baptist Church. Albert is survived by his wife Loretta Nelson Taylor; three daughters, Francine Thompson, Alberta (Charlie) Lewis, and Barbara (Don) Faulkner; one son, Marvin Smith; Nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandparent and brother. He loved people and people often commented on his winning smile. Funeral service will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, October 11, 2024 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Burial follows in Danville Memorial Gardens.
