Norma H. Niehaus peacefully and joyously left our world November 4, 2024. Born on March 31, 1931 to Nick and Lillian in Louisville, her life’s journey was filled with laughter and positivity. Norma was a lifelong community advocate, especially in Danville. She was a founding member of Sts Peter & Paul Catholic Church Amen Corner thrift store, volunteered with the League of Women’s Voters, Ladies Auxiliary, Danville Public Library, Body Recall, and many other organizations. Norma was commissioned as a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Wendell H. Ford in 1974 and recommissioned by Governor Andy Beshear just weeks before her passing. An avid gardener, she nurtured and tended her all-white flowered property in Louisville for years, bringing beauty to her neighbors and all who wandered by. She shared her vast gardening expertise to customers of St Matthew’s Feed & Seed and cherished the many friendships made during her time there. In 2022, Norma was recognized and received the University of Louisville Trager Institute’s Optimal Aging Award. She is survived by her children, Marty Niehaus, Anne Niehaus, and Celie (Tabitha) Niehaus. The family appreciates all the staff at Walker’s Trail Senior Living who provided great care and comfort to her. Norma, a giver until the end, donated her body to the UofL School of Medicine to benefit future generations.
