Downtown Danville will be brimming with holiday cheer this Saturday, Dec. 7, as the town celebrates its annual Small Town Christmas event. Running from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., families can enjoy an array of festive activities leading up to the grand Christmas parade at 6:30 p.m.
The parade, featuring over 70 entries, will light up Main Street with floats competing for awards such as Best Float and Judge’s Choice. “The Christmas parade is going to be the last event that day. It’s going to start at 6:30. We have about 70 entrants—we’re so excited about it,” said Jasmine Walters Hubbard, one of the event’s organizers. “Throughout Main Street, you’ll be able to view it. Some of these floats will be lit up, which adds to the charm.”
In addition to the parade, attendees can enjoy a variety of free activities, including photo opportunities with Santa and the Grinch, trackless train rides, face painting, ornament-making, and a vendor’s village for holiday shopping. There will also be a tree decorating contest and a costume contest. “It’s everything kids want for the holidays, but parents don’t have to pay anything,” Zimmermann said.
Planning for the event began in July, and organizers received overwhelming support from local businesses and sponsors. “When we asked for help, businesses stepped up right away,” said organizer Hillary Zimmermann. “They’ve contributed everything from free hot chocolate and cookies to funding for bounce houses and train rides.”
“This is a community event—it’s about bringing everyone together,” Zimmermann said. “It’s an opportunity for families to embrace the holiday spirit without worrying about costs. Everyone will get a chance to have fun and feel that warm, fuzzy holiday feeling, without breaking the bank.”
