Evelyn Gander, 76, of Danville, passed away January 16 2025, surrounded by love and support from her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Dan and Ann Smith of Hopkinsville, KY and her husband David Lee Gander. She was a 1965 graduate of Hopkinsville High School. Evelyn continued on to earn a Bachelor of Art degree in 1970 and a Juris Doctor in 1977 from the University of Kentucky. She would also go on and earn a Masters of Education from University of Kentucky. Commencing her career, she taught school at Hopkinsville High School and moved to Danville upon marrying David. During her career, Evelyn worked for Farmer’s National Bank in Danville, KY, in the trust department, wrote for the Advocate Messenger (1994-2002) in Danville KY, worked for the state government in Frankfort, KY, and retired as an English teacher from Boyle County High School in 2015. She is survived by her three children, Allison of Redondo Beach, CA; Brian (Evie) of Madison, WI; and Jennifer (Chris) of Danville, KY. She also is survived by eight grandchildren. In addition, Mrs. Gander is survived by her sister Emily Rodgers of Clarksville, TN and Dan Smith of Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation is from 4-8pm on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10am Saturday, January 25, 2025 at Centenary Methodist Church with the Reverend Derek Robinette presiding. A burial ceremony will be held at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, Kentucky immediately following the funeral.
