Danville celebrates MLK Day with march and ceremony

The 2025 Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration in Danville brought the community together despite frigid temperatures. Residents gathered to honor King’s legacy through a march and a series of events.
The day’s festivities began at 9:00 a.m. with a march from City Hall to the Norton Center for the Arts. There, attendees enjoyed a social hour featuring live entertainment by Michaelfly and the Sounds and Kirsten Carey of The Carey Band.
The Convocation that followed included a variety of performances. The Danville High School/Boyle County High School Combined Choir delivered a stirring musical performance, while Centre College students and the winners of the Frank X Walker Creative Arts Festival Student Art and Poetry contest presented poetry readings. Danville High School’s first- and second-place winners were also recognized during the ceremony.
Rev. Daniel Corrie Shull, the keynote speaker and senior pastor of Burnett Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, challenged the audience to actively contribute to creating positive change in the world, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts toward justice and equality.
To close the event, three Spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. Awards were presented to Glo Lewis, Clay Taylor, and Kasey Montgomery. These community members were honored for their outstanding contributions to promoting social justice and service within the community
The 2025 MLK Community Celebration highlighted the Danville community’s commitment to honoring Dr. King’s legacy and fostering unity through action and reflection.
