The Danville Board of Education members were recognized with a reception after its Jan. 27 meeting as it was School Board Recognition Month. The staff from Danville Schools were there to celebrate as the district and schools gave board members gifts and cards.
District leaders shared an update on the strategic plan work during the meeting. Chief Academic Officer Suzanne Farmer, Assistant Superintendent Brian Gover, and Superintendent Ron Ballard noted growth of the district strategic plan in three areas:
Academic achievement
The district is in the process of using brain research to help academically disadvantaged students, recently aligned its learning targets with state standards, and has enacted strategies to fulfill a well-rounded education.
Sub-header: Resources and operations
Improvements to implement: a streamlined hiring process for new hires; quarterly budget meetings with critical personnel; and continued rollout of the Option 9 program.
Wellness
The district is collaborating with local first responders, promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts, and increasing student extracurricular opportunities.
Multiple facility projects were also approved by the board, including second-phase updates to Danville High School and the Central Office roofs, along with upgrades to the DHS gym floor.
In addition, three community representatives—Liz Erwin, Rob Caudill, and Alethea Bruzek—were appointed to the Local Planning Committee of 20 members.
The board also approved a quote for a new Admiral Stadium football scoreboard to promote both school spirit and revenue-generating opportunities. Revenue generated from advertising on the board will help offset the cost while highlighting accomplishments in athletics, academics, and other areas.
