Gayle Gregory King, 82, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 12, 2025. She was born on August 22, 1942, in Danville, Kentucky, to Arnold and Margaret Gregory. Gayle was a proud graduate of Danville High School and went on to earn her degree from Stetson University. A trailblazing entrepreneur, she was a business owner at a time when few women took on that role. She successfully owned and operated her namesake boutique, Gayle King in Anchorage, for 26 years. With her keen sense of style and a passion for helping others feel their best, she built a loyal following and left a lasting impact on Louisville’s retail community. Beyond her business, Gayle was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was deeply involved in her community, giving her time and talents to Anchorage Presbyterian Church, the Louisville Younger Woman’s Club, and various school and family organizations. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and ability to make those around her feel valued and loved. Gayle had a giving spirit unlike any other. Never once saying no to someone in need, she somehow made time in her extremely busy schedule to take care of those around her. Whether it was a friend in crisis, a stranger in need of kindness, or a family member who just needed a listening ear, she was always there, offering her time, love, and unwavering support without hesitation. Her heart and generosity touched countless lives and will be forever remembered. Gayle’s greatest joy was her family. She was a loving mother to Courtney Stevens (Greg), Collie King (Shana), and Hunter King (Emily) and a proud grandmother to Annie Stevens, Alex Stevens, Reece King, Aaron King, Walker King, Preston King, and Ellie-Kate King. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Margaret Gregory, her younger brother, Dyche Gregory, her former husband, R.C. King, Jr and her sister-in-law, Ann Gregory (Steele). She is survived by her older brother Steele Gregory, her sister-in-law, Lindy Gregory (Dyche), nieces, nephews and many dear friends. The family would like to especially thank Charley Randolph, Gayle’s significant other, best friend, confidante, and love for the last 20+ years. We cannot thank him enough for what he meant to Mom and means to us. The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to those who helped care for Gayle in these last few months, including the nurses and caregivers at Belmont Village Senior Living, Caring Excellence and Hosparus. A special thank you to Françoise and Victoria for their kindness, dedication, and compassion during this time. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held Friday, February 21, at 2 PM at Anchorage Presbyterian Church, 11403 Park Road in Anchorage, KY. Visitation will take place in the Fellowship Hall directly behind the Church from 11 AM to 2 PM. A reception will follow at Owl Creek Country Club from 3 PM to 6 PM. Gayle will be laid to rest in the Church’s Memorial Garden during a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Anchorage Presbyterian Church, Make-A-Wish or Belmont Village Senior Living Cares Fund. Gayle’s entrepreneurial spirit, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed but forever cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
