Robert Winston Stigall, MD, 82

Robert Winston Stigall, MD age 82, of Danville, Kentucky, passed away on March 9, 2025. He was born on June 27, 1942, in Danville, KY, to the late Thomas J. and Pauline Tuttle Stigall, a family that instilled the value of hard work, education, and community service, which he carried throughout his life. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Dr. Tommy T. Stigall.
Bob attended the University of Kentucky, was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, and earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1965. After working as a chemical engineer for DuPont in Chattanooga, TN, and DM Wetherly in Atlanta, GA, he decided to change to the medical field. He earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville in 1974 where he was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi medical honor societies. Dr. Stigall completed his Radiology residency at IUPUI in Indianapolis, IN then brought his wife and young family to settle in his hometown of Danville, KY in 1978. He had a long successful career as a radiologist and was a respected member of the medical staff at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for 28 years.
Dr. Stigall was a true family man and a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and friend. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. His favorite activities were being with his buddies at his hunting cabin, being in a tree stand, sitting in a duck blind, attending dove shoots, cruising on Herrington Lake (his backyard), and taking regular fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. He was also a lifelong member of Lexington Avenue Baptist Church, where he was a long-time dedicated member of Purdom’s Angler Sunday School Class.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Atha B. Stigall; his daughters Andrea Stigall (Allen) Walker and Allison Stigall Grubbs, his grandchildren Jackson Grubbs, Emily Walker, Emmitt Grubbs, and William Walker; his sister Elizabeth Lynn (William) Peck, and his large extended family. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Valentine officiating. The visitation will be 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 14, 2025, at Lexington Avenue Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Jackson Grubbs, Emmitt Grubbs, William Walker, Allen Walker, Gregory Edmunds, Pat Yankee, and Tim Whitt, honorary pallbearers will be Jack Bosley, Willie Peck, Elmer Jackson, Stuart Stigall, John Edmunds, Purdom’s Anglers Sunday School Class. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery, with his family.
