Boyle County High School students had the privilege of attending the Kentucky State BBQ festival on Friday.
The foods and nutrition class, taught by Kendra Goodpaster, took a short field trip to the festival to learn a little bit about barbecue from the pit masters themselves.
The students were able to step outside of the classroom and learn about the cooking process all while exploring local food and getting a small taste of the festival.
“We feel fortunate that we have something in our community we can be proud of,” Goodpaster said. “It’s an unique experience in Kentucky.”
Students visited pitmaster tents and were able to hear about their personal experiences along with what it takes to make the unique barbecue each one is known for. The group enjoyed a lunch provided by Lucky Dog BBQ.
“No matter what you eat, you’re going to love it,” BCHS senior Ashley Boyd said.
