Michael Edward Thompson, 47, son of William E. “Sonny” Thompson and Sue Hockensmith Lewis, died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016. Born May 10, 1969, in Mercer County, he was a 1987 graduate of Burgin High School and was a quality control supervisor at RR Donnelley. He was a member of the Burgin Baptist Church, enjoyed golfing and fishing and served as assistant coach for the Burgin High School Bass Fishing Team.
Survivors besides his mother and father are his step-mother, Sherry Thompson; and his step-father Richard Lewis; two sons, Rockland Thompson and Elijah Thompson, both of Junction City; two sisters, Lori Daugherty and Missy Yeast, both of Harrodsburg; one step-brother Shane (Lindsey) Cocanougher of Harrodsburg; and one step-sister, Amanda Cocanougher of Burgin. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016, at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home with Joe Smith and Bobby King officiating. Bobby King, Milton Hammons, Michael Griffen, Frank Martin, Bill Barnett, Rick Carter, Keith Monson and members of the Burgin High School Bass Fishing Team will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Sunday at the Alexander & Royalty Funeral Home.
