J.W. “Tink” Teater 

1919-2016

J.W. “Tink” Teater, 97, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.

He is preceded in death by his wife Anna Murphy Teater. Tink was born on Jan. 13, 1919, in Garrard County to the late Hobert and Atress Noel Teater.

He was a carpenter for many years, where he helped build over 100 houses in Garrard County. Tink owned many grocery stores in Garrard County including Buckeye, Hamilton Ave and Poor Ridge.

Tink served our country in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he fought in the European Theater. He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW. Tink was also a Kentucky Colonel. He was a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church. Surviving is a son Larry Teater (Pauletta) of Lancaster; one daughter Peggy Teater Derringer of Lancaster; four grandchildren Donnie Case (Kelly) of Illinois, Mike Case (Michelle) of Illinois, Byron Teater (Kim) of Hazard and Stacey Morgan of Stanford; eight grandchildren Hannah Cornett, Megin Case, Annamargaret Case, Makenzie Case, Tyler Cornett, Haden Case, Ian Case and Jakob Teater.

Tink was also preceded in death by a sister Ida Huffman, and a half-sister Mary Katherine Land. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Spurlin Funeral Home with Rev. Bryce McCulley, Rev. Jim Nichols and Rev. Leon Thomas officiating.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery, with Military Honors by American Legion Post #18.
