Danville City Commission approved two bids on Monday from Divine Creations and McAfee Moving and Landscaping for landscaping services and flowers for the city.
The city requested proposals for the services for downtown and for the annual flower program contract, beginning Feb. 1 through Jan. 31, 2018.
There was a large difference in price between the two bids, as the bid from Divine Creation was for $48,855 and the McAfee Mowing and Landscaping was for $97,999.24. The commission went with the lower bid from Divine Creation.
Tom Byerly from public works said Divine Creation has provided landscaping for downtown Danville for the last couple of years. The company maintains flower beds and “Welcome to Danville” signs around the city.
The city also requested proposals for providing flowers, but only received one bid from Red Barn Nursery at $19,971.75, which was approved.
Byerly said Red Barn Nursery has also provided flowers for the city for the last couple of years.
City Engineer Earl Coffey said there are additional purchases made for the specialty items placed around the city like the hanging baskets and areas that may need additional flowers.
