Godbey Dean “Pappy” Roney

1937-2017

Godbey Dean “Pappy” Roney, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017. He was born in Boyle County on May 1, 1937, to the late Rupert “Jack” and Evelyn Dean Roney and was married 53 years to his loving wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Bottom Roney.

Godbey served his country as a Staff Sargent in the United States Army, worked for 42 years at Coleman’s Lumber Yard in Harrodsburg, was a member of Open Arms Community Church in Lebanon, and was a former Deacon. He was always smiling and joking with others; he was very proud of his four grandchildren and enjoyed attending all their activities. After retirement he enjoyed traveling, and taking family vacations to the beach. He played softball for many years and never met a stranger.

In addition to his wife, Betsy, Godbey is survived by two sons, Darin (Julie) Roney, Mark (Dana) Roney; four grandchildren, Nicholas, Danielle, Connor and Morgan Roney; two brothers, Jackie (Dottie) Roney and Bobby Roney; a sister, Annelle Collier; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Walden Funeral Home Perryville with Pastor Phil Bishop officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 – 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Perry, Terry, Robbie Roney, Stuart and Steve Moss and Terry Young. Honorary bearers will be John Bottom, Woody Staten, Walter Hood and Howard Brady.
