BARDSTOWN — A two vehicle crash on the Bluegrass Parkway Thursday morning killed a Harrodsburg couple and one of their grandchildren, leaving a second grandchild in serious condition.
Delmer Odell, 72, his wife Delores, and their 3 and 5-year-old grandchildren were westbound on the Bluegrass Parkway in a 2007 Mercury Milan when they were hit head-on by a tractor trailer. The truck was driven by Richie Warren, 55, of Springfield, Tennessee who was driving east on the parkway in a 2014 Peterbuilt tractor trailer.
A press release from the Kentucky State Police said the vehicle crossed over for “unknown reasons.”
The Odell’s five-year-old granddaughter was transported to Flaget Memorial Hospital, before being flown to Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville.
A post on the Facebook page of the Woodlawn Elementary School, where the Odell’s daughter-in-law teaches, said the young girl, her daughter, is expected to make a full recovery.
“Please keep the Odell family, the students and staff in your thoughts during this difficult time,” the post reads.
The school is accepting donations for the Odell family.
Warren refused treatment at the scene.
The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, the Bardstown City Police, the Bardstown Fire Department and the Nelson County Fire Department also assisted at the scene. The accident is currently under investigation by Kentucky State Police Trooper/Reconstructionist Scott Rafferty.
