Ephraim McDowell Health sponsoring free health screenings on June 24 for women

Ephraim McDowell Health is sponsoring free health screenings for women only at the First Baptist Church on Walnut Street in Danville from 8 a.m. to noon on June 24.

Health screenings that will be offered are cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, body mass index, take-home colorectal cancer screening kits (over age 50) and stroke risk. After the screenings are complete, participants will have the opportunity to discuss their results with a licensed health professional.

Participants should not eat 12 hours prior to their screening if they would like to have the blood test that gives them a full lipid panel.  This gives the participant detailed information including their HDL, LDL, triglycerides and glucose. 

Walk-ins are welcome but appointments are recommended. To schedule an appointment, please call (859) 583-0943. The screenings are open to women 18 years and older.

Outreach event through GABBF

On June 2, at Batewood Park in Danville, the Great American Brass Band Festival will hold a community outreach event for kids. The event will be 1-3 p.m. Friday, and will include arts and crafts by On the Move Art Studio from Lexington, and an “instrument petting zoo” for kids to try their hand at brass instruments. Everyone is invited. 

Fund-raiser for area homeless shelter

HARRODSBURG — The House of Grace, Hope and Mercy, 436 Chestnut St. in Harrodsburg is a residence where homeless families can live while receiving support to get back on their feet. It is having a walk-a-thon and silent auction to raise money for the facility from 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at Anderson Dean Park, starting at the Lyons Pavilion.

Garden Club of Danville — 1 p.m. Wedneday, June 7 at Boyle County Extension Service Office. Earl Coffee, Danville City Engineer, will present landscape plans for the grounds of the new water treatment plant. Design will be creative mass design. Danville-Boyle County Board of Adjustments — 10 a.m. June 15 at Danville City Hall public meeting room. Items on the agenda include three requests for varience of building setbacks for: Centre College, at the corner of Perryville Street and Harding Street in a GR-C zone; Greer Land Co., line along high-pressure gas lines per section 5.1.11 of the Danville Zoning Ordinance, property is located at 2596 South Danville Bypass; and Sharon Sills/McDonald’s USA, for line along high-pressure gas lines, the property is locted at 208 Jane Trail.

Boyle County Fiscal Court committee meetings have been reschedule

Boyle County Fiscal Court’s special called EDP workshop has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 6 at the fiscal court room; Animal Control Committee will meet the same day following the EDP workshop, at the Boyle County Humane Society; the Solid Waster/Recycling Committee will meet at 9 a.m. June 6 in the fiscal court room.
