1920-2017

Mary Evelyn Yankey Crain, 96, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 in Bonita Springs, Fl. She was born in Springfield, KY on November 14, 1920 to the late Hugh and Alta Upton Yankey. Mary Evelyn retired from Hunsted’s Salon where she worked as a beautician. She was a long time member, and past worthy Matron (1989-1990), of the Kentucky Order of the Eastern Star, Boyle Chapter #359 and a very active member of First Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a member of the Ephraim McDowell Hospital Auxillary and was recognized for volunteering more than 1,000 hours.

In addition to her parents, Mary Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Garfield Raymond Crain, a daughter, Alice Jo Wells, a sister Helen Colvin, and two brothers Donnie Yankey, and Hugh ‘Midget’ Yankey.

She is survived by a daughter, Lynn Crain (Rob Shupe) of Ft. Myers, Florida; a son-in-law, Jim Wells of Charlotte, North Carolina; two sisters, Nellie Coulter of Willisburg, and Molly Lyons of Austin, Texas; one granddaughter, Julie Wells Hilton, and one great-granddaughter, Abby Hilton.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 22, 2017, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Bro. Tim Mathis will officiate. Interment will follow at Cemetery Hill Cemetery in Springfield.

Active pallbearers will be Benny Goode, Rob Shupe, Sandy Spalding, Mark Spalding, Sam Hundley, Nicholas Hundley, and John Maddox. The honorary pallbearers will be Karl Thomas, Tommy Thomas, and B.C. Lyons. Visitation will be 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Stith Funeral Home. The Eastern Star Ceremony will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday.
