Health care bill shouldn’t be crafted in secret

Dear Editor,

On Friday, June 16 (about 11 a.m.), I tried to visit Mitch McConnell’s office in Lexington to voice my concern about the Senate’s health care bill. I was disappointed to find the office closed when I arrived. Since the bill is being crafted with no transparency and under secret circumstances, it is difficult for the public to receive reliable information.

We are hearing that the Senate wants to pass the bill before the July 4 recess without holding any hearings or allowing amendments. The optics of this process resemble something similar to what Putin might do.

Do the Republicans not feel any obligation to reassure the public about legislation that represents about one-sixth of the American economy and could affect their ability to obtain health care?
