The city of Perryville will have a part-time clerk beginning in August, after the city council approved Mayor Anne Sleet’s recommendation on Thursday night to hire Bill Chance on a part-time basis.
Chance will replace Mona Followell, who is retiring this year.
Followell, a full-time clerk for the city, has been the city clerk since 1990, according to Sleet. Her last day is Aug. 31, and she will train Chance until that date.
“We appreciate Mona for all she’s done,” Sleet said. “She knows her job and she knows it well.”
Chance has lived in Perryville for many years, Perryville officials said, and has served on the council on more than one occasion when there were vacancies.
Sleet said she interviewed about nine applicants and made the decision to change the position from full-time to part-time to save the city some money.
