1926-2017

Ralph Louis Pappert, age 90, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 in his Harrodsburg, KY home. Born September 7, 1926 in Pittsburgh Pa, son of the late Andrew and Anna Pappert. He was the youngest of five children who predeceased him; Andrew Pappert, Thelma Pappert, Mercedes Pappert and Regis Pappert. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years Dorothy Steigerwald Pappert and their four children, Mark Regis (Cathy) Pappert of Livingston MT, Karl Fredrick (Terri) Pappert of Denver CO, Elaine P (Bryan) Young of Black Mountain NC, Karen P (Wickliff) Hughes of Harrodsburg KY; five grandchildren Stephen Pappert, Gregory Pappert, Ruth Hughes, Jacob Pappert, James Young and one great grandchild Wyatt Pappert.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army Air Corp as a Teletype operator. He was discharged from the Army Air Corp on Dec 14, 1945 and attended Washington & Jefferson College and later transferred to the University of Pittsburgh where he obtained a petroleum engineering degree. After graduation, he started his career with Columbia Gas where he worked for 37 years. He retired as Plant Manager on January 28, 1988. Upon retirement, he bought a small horse farm where he built a log home and enjoyed breeding and selling Thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed traveling and trips to the beach with the entire family. Fly fishing, photography and woodworking were amongst his hobbies. The funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The celebrant will be Father Alan Carter. The family invites friends and family to join them for a celebration of life picnic following the service at the family home. Burial will be at a later date in the St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Stith Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested to Heritage Hospice.
