Fundraiser for Wilderness Trace Saturday 

Ashley Smothers and her Young Living Essential Oils team of Boyle County is hosting a fund raiser for the benefit of the Wilderness Trace Child Development Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, August 26 at Junction City First Baptist Church, located at 3860 U.S. 127 South. Monetary donations will be accepted, as well as school supplies for Wilderness Trace Child Development Center including paper towels, batteries, tissues, crayons, baby wipes and glue, as well as foods such as fruit snacks, crackers and juice boxes. There will also be 30 vendors and two food trucks at the event. For more information contact Smothers at (859) 324-5660.

Free gentle yoga classes

LANCASTER — The Garrard County Extension Office will be sponsoring free gentle yoga classes on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. during September and October. This yoga class helps with flexability, balance and strength. Wear comfortable clothing and meet some new people. Some standing is required. McDowell Wellness Center offering after school program for children

McDowell Wellness Center is offering an After School Gym and Swim program for children ages 6 through 13. The program begins Sept. 4 and continues through May 25, 2018. Children can choose to participate in McDowell Minnows, Jr. Boot Camp, or both. 

McDowell Minnows is a non-competitive program designed for children who have completed swimming lessons, but are not quite ready for a competitive team. This program will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:45 to 5 p.m.

Jr. Boot Camp is an exciting, energetic, exercise program designed to encourage kids to “Get Moving”! This program will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:45 to 50 p.m.

If needed, there is also the option to pay an additional $2 fee so that your child can stay until 60 p.m. During this time, children will receive a light snack and can work on homework.

The McDowell Minnows monthly fee is $45 for members and $60 for non-members. The Jr. Boot Camp monthly fee is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. The monthly fee for both programs is $60 for members and $75 for non-members. Additional children in the same family will receive a $5 discount each month.

A free trial period will be offered from August 28 through Sept.r 1 for anyone interested in the program. Please call McDowell Wellness Center at (859) 936-9355 for more information.

Meetings

The Danville Boyle County Human Rights Commission — 6 p.m. August 28 at the Boyle County Courthouse, in the Fiscal Court room on the first floor. Please arrive promptly and enter by the Fourth Street entrance. The Human Rights Commission is established to hear all complaints and concerns of community citizens related to violations of their human rights.

Boyle County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy (ASAP) — will NOT meet this Friday, August 25, as previously announced. The meeting has been rescheduled to Friday, Sept. 1, at 8:30 a.m. at the Boyle County Health Department. All interested persons are invited to attend.

Danville Boyle County Convention and Visitors Bureau — 9 a.m. Monday, August 28 at the McKinney Conference Center, 105 East Walnut St. Items on the agenda include: financials with action needed; chairman’s report; executive director’s report and funding request proposals.
