News release
The Edgar Winter Band’s boundless energy brings yet another show-stopping performance to Newlin Hall. Edgar Winter has been celebrated across the globe since his 1970 solo debut,Entrance. His early recording of “Tobacco Road” is a powerful, emotionally devastating masterpiece that propelled him into the national spotlight. In 1972, Edgar brought together Dan Hartman, Ronnie Montrose and Chuck Ruff to form The Edgar Winter Group, the legendary band that created such mega hits as “Frankenstein” and the ever-popular “Free Ride.”
“Frankensteinis one of those monster 70s rock instrumentals I listened to growing up that demonstrates how melodic and amazingly fun rock music can be,” said Norton Center Executive Director Steve Hoffman. “It is obvious that Edgar Winter, himself, has fun while performing live his keyboard-driven songs that blend rock, R&B and pop into energetic upbeat vibes. His performances are as iconic as his looks!”
By the time Edgar Winter left his hometown of Beaumont, Texas in the 1960’s, he was already technically proficient in every aspect of music. A child prodigy who achieved international success early on, Edgar has found an audience in every major entertainment medium–music, film and television. Edgar Winter’s live shows consistently receive rave reviews, and one has the feeling he enjoys them just as much as the audience–as he said himself, “I can’t imagine anything more worthwhile than doing what I most love. And they pay me for it.”
With over 20 albums and numerous collaborative efforts to his credit, not to mention his introduction of playing the keyboard around his neck, Edgar Winter has not been satisfied to ride the wave of popular music stardom. His music is always evolving, and he is a master at stretching his skill and imagination to produce amazing results. He continues to thrill audiences with his live performances, always remaining on the cutting edge of music and style, and his future looks even brighter than his past.
