Isaac “Ike” Martin Slusher

1932-2017

Isaac “Ike” Martin Slusher, 84, passed away Monday, October 2, 2017 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Born November 12, 1932 in Middlesboro, KY. He was the son of the late Isaac Martin and Sarah Slusher and husband of the late Margaret Davies Slusher. Ike was a resident of Middlesboro, KY and a lifetime member of First Baptist Church. He was a Deacon and active church leader for many years.

In addition to his parents, Isaac Martin and Sarah Slusher, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Margaret Davies Slusher; sister, Hazel Slusher Lair; and brothers-in-law: Honorable John P. Lair of Cynthiana, KY and Onley Arnett of Nicholasville, KY.

Mr. Slusher was an educator and administrator with the Bell County School District for 38 years, serving as Superintendent of Bell County Schools for the last 14 years of his tenure. Mr. Slusher was a prominent businessman and leader in his community.

He is survived by his four daughters and three sons-in-laws: Deborah Slusher of Louisville, KY, Virginia and Steve Martin, Sarah and Jeff Ausmus of Middlesboro, KY, and JaneL and Charles Paynter of Danville, KY; nine grandchildren: Sarah J. (Nathan Smith ) CJ (Katherine) and Martin Ausmus, Lauren, Kristan and Meghan Paynter, Amy (Steven Meeron), Alice (Joey McConnell) and Jacob Martin. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Spencer and Maddie Ann Meeron and Addison McConnell; sister, Ruth Arnett of Murfreesboro, TN; two brothers-in-law: William Edwin Davies of Frisco, TX and David L Davies of Harlan, KY; special nieces and nephews, Honorable John and Peggy Lair and Henry B. and Donna Sandidge.

Funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Middlesboro, KY with Reverend Zachary Bay officiating. Music will be provided by John and Beth Parker, Bonnie Daniels and Janet Matthews. Pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Green Hills Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 2-5 p.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017 at First Baptist Church, Middlesboro, KY. Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to First Baptist Church, 2300 Cumberland Avenue, Middlesboro, KY 40965.
