John Pat “Johnny” McGirr, Jr.

1948-2017

John Pat “Johnny” McGirr, Jr, 69 of Holy Cross suddenly passed away at his home on Monday, October 2, 2017. Born September 25, 1948, he was the son of the late John Pat and Juanita McGirr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jere; son, Randale and an infant daughter.

He was retired from the State Highway Department. As an avid horse puller, he competed nationwide. He was a farmer and loved riding horses. Johnny cared deeply for his family and friends. He never met a stranger. 

He is survived by his fiancé and companion, Annette Buhler; a daughter, Regina (Keith) Payton of McKinney; son, A.J. Simpson (Amanda Taylor) of Ellisburg; two brothers: Tommy (Doris “Mickey” McGirr of Danville and Larry McGirr of Danville; three sisters: Shelia (Paul) Brewer of Waddy, Sharen (Bruce) Huffman of Danville and Geneva (Steve) Hogue of Parksville; and seven grandchildren: Kyla, Kelsey, Kasey, Mark, Matthew, Jude and Ledger. 

Services will be at 11 am, Friday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Bro. Benny McCarty and Bro. Phillip Coffman with burial in McGirr-Sandidge Cemetery. Pallbearers are David Purvis, Michael Buhler, Kurt Ballard, Jeff Ricker, Darin Graves and Mark Boswell. Visitation is 5-8 pm Thursday.
