Safety tips
Boyle County Emergency Management Director Mike Wilder said Halloween can be a dangerous night for kids, as children “are more than twice … as likely to be hit and killed by cars on Halloween than any other day of the year.” He provided the following safety tips:
• Children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult
• Instead of masks, use face paint or make up
• Carry glow sticks and/or flashlights
• Costumes should fit well children won’t trip over them
• Only cross streets at the corners
• Don’t use electronic devices while trick-or-treating, because it can cause children to be distracted while walking
• Make eye contact with drivers while walking along and across streets
• Drivers on Halloween night should pay extra attention for children in the streets
• Parents should check candy for tampering before allowing children to eat it
