Need-to-know information for the state football championships

The KHSAA has held its football championships at Kroger Field only once before, and that was more than 40 years ago, so even the most seasoned state finals fans will need to know what to expect when they travel to Lexington this weekend to watch Boyle County and Danville.

Here is some need-to-know information for fans of both teams who want to travel to the games or follow from home:

The basics on both games

Class 3A championship, Boyle County (13-1) vs. Corbin (13-1), 7 p.m. Friday

Class 2A championship, Mayfield (13-1) vs. Danville (14-0), 1 p.m.

 

Getting ready

Both Boyle County and Danville will hold celebratory events in the days leading up to the game. Here is more information specific to each school, from school websites:

  • Boyle County – Spirit week activities will be held throughout the week, as well as pep rallies at Boyle County Middle School and the district’s three elementary schools (closed to the public). All Boyle County schools will be on regular schedule Friday. A sendoff will be held in the student parking lot at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
  • Danville – A community pep rally will be held at the school at 2:45 p.m. Friday, and a sendoff will be held in the school parking lot at 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Regardless of the result of the game, a reception will be held Saturday in the school lobby when the team returns.

 

Getting there

Kroger Field, formerly known as Commonwealth Stadium, is on the south side of the University of Kentucky campus.

The address to use for finding directions via GPS is 1540 University Drive, Lexington, KY 40506.

 

Parking

Kroger Field parking lots will open two hours prior to the first game of each day. Parking will be provided at no charge to fans holding admission tickets. Spaces are first-come, first-served, and fans are limited to one space per vehicle.

Here is parking information specific to both days:

  • Friday – Some lots open at noon, others at 1:30 p.m. Blue, Red, Green and Purple lots open. (Friday parking map.) Parking is expected to be limited on Friday, as lots will also be used by students and employees. Overflow parking will be available at Immanuel Baptist Church, 3100 Tates Creek Road, and the KHSAA will provide a shuttle from the church parking lot to stadium Gate 9 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday – Lots open at 11 a.m. Blue, Red, Green, Orange, Purple and Yellow lots open. (Saturday parking map.)

 

Tickets

All ticket sales will be sold through Ticketmaster.com and KHSAA.org or at the Kroger Field box office. Tickets will not be sold at the participating schools.

Here are the ticket prices:

  • General admission – $13 in advance (through Thursday), $16 on game day. Children ages 6 and under are free. Bench-back seating.
  • Field Level Club – $25. Children ages 2 and under are free. Chairback seating and access to the Field Level Club (no game view).
  • Woodford Reserve Club – $30. Children ages 2 and under are free. Chairback seating and access to the Woodford Reserve Club (with game view).

The Kroger Field box office is located near the southwest corner of the stadium between gates 9 and 10.

 

Admission and seating

Stadium gates open one hour before kickoff. General stadium information, including a list of prohibited items, is available on UK’s KHSAA Kroger Field A-Z web page.

All seating will be in lower-level sideline sections, except accessible general admission seating. This KHSAA seating chart details the open sections.

Here is seating information specific to both games:

  • Class 3A – Boyle County will be the visiting team and will use the bench on the north side of the stadium (opposite the press box). Seating will be available in sections 1-11.
  • Class 2A – Danville will be the home team and will use the bench on the south side of the stadium (same side as the press box). Seating will be available in sections 21-24 and 28-31.

Accessible general admission seating will be located at field level in the west end zone.

Reserved club seating is located in sections 25-27.
