A Lancaster man was killed in a two-vehicle wreck along the Danville U.S. 150 Bypass Friday night.

Boyle County Coroner Dr. Don Hamner identified the man as Darrell Edward Barrett, 60, of Lancaster.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Robert Purdy said Barrett was driving a Honda passenger car south on Belinda Boulevard around 7:15 p.m. and attempted to cross the bypass, pulling into the path of a Chevy pickup, which was traveling westbound.

Barrett was killed in the crash. There were two passengers in the car; one was ejected. Both were taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, Purdy said Friday night.

Hamner said Saturday that an autopsy on Barrett had been completed. He officially pronounced Barrett dead shortly after 8:30 p.m., but said the man had not survived for any time after the wreck.

“I think the (wreck) was immediately fatal to him,” Hamner said.

Blunt force trauma is the preliminary cause of death.

The driver of the pickup was uninjured. A juvenile riding in the pickup was taken by a personal vehicle to the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Purdy said it’s too early to know if weather was a factor. An accident reconstructionist with KSP will be investigating the wreck.

Arrangements for Barrett are pending at Ramsey-Young Funeral Home in Lancaster.
