Rachel Dunsmore

1916-2017

Rachel Dunsmore, 101, of Danville, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 at McDowell Place in Danville. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.B. Rachel was born on July 5, 1916 in Parksville, KY to the late John T. and Elma Coulton Underwood. She graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1941 with a Home Economics Degree. Since her graduation from the University of Kentucky she continued to be an avid UK basketball fan.Rachel was a Home Economics teacher at Parksville High School and Boyle County High School for over 36 years. She was the owner of the Underwood Insurance Agency; a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma, Parksville Homemakers, and the Boyle County Retired Teachers Association. She was a proud Kentucky Colonel. But the most important part of her life, was that she was a lifelong member of Parksville Christian Church.Surviving is a son James “Butch” Dunsmore (Linda) of Shelbyville; a daughter, Mary Susan Wellman (Roger) of Nicholasville; a sister Mildred Bolling of Danville; five grandchildren, Byron Dunsmore, Beth Crain, Baird Dunsmore, Suzanna Combs, and Kip Wellman and eleven great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by five brothers, J.T. Jr., William, Eugene, James, Luther Underwood, and two sisters, Elizabeth Williams, and Evelyn Underwood.Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Preston Pruitt Spurlin Funeral Home with Rev, Frank Preston officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 PM. Burial will be in the Parksville Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Byron Dunsmore, Baird Dunsmore, Chris Crain, Kip Wellman, Reagan Combs, and Ervin Vanover.Honorary pallbearers are Bill Underwood, Van Underwood, Stuart Underwood, Sandy Goodlett, Roland Coulter, Bob Cash, and Ron Russell.
