1928-2018

Katherine Murphy Burris, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018, in Lexington, Kentucky.

Katherine was born July 9, 1928, in Casey County, Kentucky, the youngest of four children born to Anna and Edgar Murphy. Katherine attended Campbellsville College and Eastern Kentucky University and received her teaching certificate. She taught at a one-room school in Neely’s Gap, McKinney Elementary, and Hustonville Elementary. She was married to the late Bennie Allen Burris. Katherine loved to cross-stitch, collect antique water pitchers, travel, and be with friends. Her favorite activity in recent years was to play with her great-grandchildren. They brought much joy into her life. She will be much missed by her family and friends. 

Katherine is survived by her son, Edgar Stanley Burris (Jenny Ann), Hustonville; daughter, Brenda Nally (Phil), Nicholasville; grandchildren, Chris Burris (Katrina), Richmond, John Nally (Shannon), Versailles, Jim Nally (Amanda), Spring Hill, TN, and Jennifer Woodward (Luke), Mayfield; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Burris, Grayson Nally, Joshua Burris, Grace Burris, Sarah Nally, Hannah Burris, Emma Nally, Judah Nally, Allie Woodward, and Jovie Woodward. 

The funeral will be at the Hustonville Christian Church on Saturday, January 6, at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Shaw officiating. Casket bearers are Chris Burris, John Nally, Jim Nally, Brad Wesley, Joe Ellis, Joe Maupin, and David Maupin. Burial will be in Hustonville Cemetery.
