James Morris Critchfield

James Morris Critchfield, Sr., 95 of Danville, died January 10, 2018. “Critchie”, as he was called by his friends was the son of the late James Polk and Cassie Jane Robertson Critchfield, and the husband of the late Georgia Mae Rice Critchfield. He served as a Marine in World War II and received a Purple Heart for valor. He served as Assistant Chief of Police and retired from the City of Danville Police Department.

He is survived by two sons, James M. Critchfield, Jr. (Nancy) and William S. Critchfield (Pat); and one daughter, Debra T. Langford (Larry). 

He was preceded in death by a son, Stephen K. Critchfield; and a daughter, Judith A. Compton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Amos Critchfield; and two sisters, Evelyn Brewsaugh and Minnie Stratton.

He loved spending time with his 26 grand, great and great-great grandchildren. He was a member of the Danville First Church of God. He will be greatly missed by his family. 

The funeral service will be at 12 p.m., Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Danville First Church of God. Rev. Kevin Cummins will officiate. Interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Monday prior to the service at the church.
