Jane Dixon (Hess) Bane

1925-2018

Jane Dixon (Hess) Bane, 92, of Danville, and formerly of Connellsville, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the McDowell Place assisted living facility in Danville, KY.

Jane was born on April 14, 1925, in Little Summit. She was the daughter of the late Ewing Freeman Hess and Nellie Belle (Morgan) Hess. Jane was the last surviving member of her immediate family. After graduating from Dunbar Township High School in 1943, Jane was employed by the H. C. Frick District of US Steel, where she worked at the Leisenring #3 Mine as an assistant clerk. She worked there from June 1943 until February 1955 when she decided to take time off to begin raising a family. Jane returned to work in 1978 at the Frick Tri-County Federal Credit Union in Uniontown, and she worked there until she retired in 1985. In 1982, Jane was crowned “Queen Coke” at the 65th annual Frick Picnic at Idlewild Park. Jane was an active member of the Connellsville community, serving as a member of the Hospital Club, Eastern Star, and the Beta Sigma Phi social sorority. Jane was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Connellsville. Jane was also a longtime member of a bridge club in Connellsville, whose fellow members became lifelong friends. Following her retirement in 1985, Jane enjoyed their annual winter trips to Florida with her husband Bill and a number of their Connellsville friends. Jane married the late William H. (Bill) Bane on November 14, 1953, in Connellsville, PA. Jane was preceded in death by her husband Bill on February 1, 2015.

Jane is survived by daughter, Susan J. McClain (Tom) of Danville, son William H. Bane, Jr. (Carolynn) of Vienna, VA, and daughter Amy E. Whitesmith (David) of Westerville, OH. Jane is also survived by grandchildren, Erin Ring (Chris), Ben McClain, and Katie Swafford (Matt), Alexa Sulvetta (Ben), Rachel Uhrig, Kurt Uhrig (Maggie), Bailey Bane, David Whitesmith, William Whitesmith, and John Whitesmith. Jane is also survived by great grandchildren Abigail Dixon Ring and Ava Uhrig.

Jane’s family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to all the caring people at the Woodcrest Senior Living Community in Scottdale, PA; and the McDowell Place and Heritage Hospice in Danville, KY.

Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, followed by a funeral service at the Brooks Funeral Home Inc., 111 East Green St., Connellsville, (724-628-1430). The funeral service will be officiated by Rev. David Ealy of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Connellsville. Interment will be in the Green Ridge Memorial Park, in Pennsville.
