A Junction City family was forced out of their home by a fire at 2:46 a.m. Sunday at 172 East Ila Avenue.
Junction City Firefighters responded to the single-story home to find the residents outside. Heavy smoke and flames could be seen coming from the kitchen door, according to Public Information Officer Jim Harris.
“With the help of the Boyle County Fire Department, crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly,” he said.
The house sustained heavy smoke damage and the kitchen, where the fire is believed to have originated, was destroyed.
Crews remained on scene until 6 a.m. checking for remaining hot spots and completing a routine fire investigation. Harris said the fire is not believed to be suspicious.
At this time, he said, it is believed the family is staying with friends or family members.
