FRANKFORT — Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Office of Special Prosecutions announced the indictment of a Casey County man for physically assaulting and harassing two nurses and threatening and assaulting a police officer.

Austin L. Scott, 24, of Liberty, was indicted in Casey Circuit Court Feb. 2, 2018, on one count each of third-degree assault, third-degree terroristic threatening, fourth-degree assault, harassment and second-degree disorderly conduct.

Third-degree assault is a Class D felony. The remaining charges are misdemeanors.

On Feb. 6, 2017, Scott allegedly kicked one nurse and spit on another when they attempted to treat him at a hospital. Scott threatened and kicked a police officer as part of the incident with the nurses.

Scott faces a prison sentence of one to five years if convicted.

Arraignment is scheduled for 1 p.m. March 12, 2018, in Casey Circuit Court. Scott’s bond has been set as $2,000.

Beshear’s Office of Special Prosecutions is prosecuting the case with assistance from the Liberty Police Department.

“Our hardworking health-care providers and law enforcement leave their families every day to go to work and better all our families,” Beshear said. “When their lives are threatened, my office will respond.”

A charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
