Bridging the gap

Construction on the new bridge over Herrington Lake between Garrard and Mercer counties is in full swing.

Drilling is now in progress for concrete pylons that are being poured to support the new bridge. Two enormous barges on each side of the old Kennedy Bridge hold three tall construction cranes as well as  equipment, supplies, materials and even an office that are being used for the project.

A worker at the scene Friday said Kennedy Bridge will soon be closed again for at least a couple of days while construction crews build a work platform on the old bridge.
