She was born to Dollie and David Kennedy on December 30, 1923, in Lincoln County. She graduated from McKinney High School and attended Eastern Kentucky College. Hays’ vocation was family caregiver to her husband, children, grandchildren and other family members. Throughout her life she loved being outdoors and, as recently as last year, she tended her flower and vegetable gardens. She instilled a love of the outdoors in her children and grandchildren. She and her husband worked together in their construction and craft business, traveling throughout Kentucky to sell crafts at festivals. They also traveled to much of the United States with Martin tours and went to Finland to visit her husband’s family. She loved Kentucky history, UK basketball and cooking, with baked goods as her specialty. She believed in keeping busy. Hays was a member of First Baptist Church, Danville, and her faith in God was expressed in the way she lived.

She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Clancy) Robinson and Dixie (David) Taylor; six grandchildren, Greg Bandy, Tracy (John) Muchmore, Gretchen (Scott) Bandy, Michelle (Dave) Doolin, Matt (Andrew) Robinson and Jason (Heather) Taylor; eight great-grandchildren, Maryann Bandy, Rachel Bandy, Emalee Taylor, Ashlee Taylor, Kaitlyn Taylor, Cash Doolin, Hayes Doolin and Vinson Doolin. She was the last surviving Kennedy sibling.

The funeral service will be 12 p.m., noon, Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Stith Funeral Home, Junction City. Rev. Tim Mathis will officiate. Burial will be in Bellevue Cemetery and her grandsons will be her pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon, prior to the service on Tuesday.
