In honor of Black History Month, an expansive public display of original photographs and other memorabilia of Boyle County’s African American culture is on exhibit at Centre College’s Grace Doherty Library on Walnut Street through Feb. 27. The Boyle County African American Historical Society and local historian, Michael Hughes, worked with members of Centre’s library staff to arrange the display, including an old baseball jersey from a Danville African American team that was popular here decades ago.

On Saturday, Feb. 17, Hughes or other members of the DBCAAHS will be on hand to answer questions and to share stories with the public who want to visit the display and learn more about the history of African Americans in this area from 12-4 p.m. James Hunn, a director of Camp Nelson will be on hand from 11 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.

Hughes said all area schools are encouraged to visit the exhibit. For more information or request Hughes to give a tour of the display, you may call him at (859) 326-6065.
