Students in the Danville Independent Schools will have to attend school March 22-23 to make up for two of the five days the district has missed this semester. The board approved the plan Monday night.
Chairperson Paige Matthews said the board realized it could be difficult on families (it would have given a four-day weekend) but the days needed to be made up.
The plan uses “bank time” to keep the last day of school set at May 24, so not to go any later. Districts are required to have 1,062 hours and 170 days. The district plans 171 days and will have over 1,062 hours, Director of Pupil Personnel Ed McKinney said.
“We have missed five total: Four due to weather and one due to illness,” McKinney said. He said two days have already been made up.
