Trooper Robert Purdy answers questions from reporters outside a house on Shakertown Road where someone was fatally shot Tuesday evening.

The report states, “during a recorded interview conducted by BCSO, (Montgomery) confessed that he was involved with an argument with his wife, retrieved a shotgun and ultimately was responsible for his wife’s death. Wounds visible on the victim appear to be consistent with being shot with a high caliber firearm, likely a shotgun.”

Montgomery was officially booked into the Boyle County Detention Center at 3:49 a.m. by the Kentucky State Police. He has been charged with murder.

On Tuesday evening, Trooper Robert Purdy confirmed there were children in the home at the time of the shooting.

“It’s a very sad situation,” Purdy said at the time.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by KSP Det. Tye Chavies.
