1941-2018
Michael Brent Candler, 77, a Lincoln County educator, died March 14, 2018. The son of the late Sherman and Josephine Candler, he was born January 21, 1941. He was a star basketball player at Hustonville High School, where he was also involved in Future Farmers of America and the Conservation Club. Mike received a BS degree from Campbellsville College with a double major of History and Political Science and Health and Physical Education. He received a MA and Rank I in Administration from Eastern Kentucky University. He began his teaching career at Clarkson, KY where he taught for a semester. Then he and his wife, Catherine, along with their daughter, Terri moved back to Lincoln County, where he was a teacher and basketball coach at McKinney High School. When Lincoln County High School was built he was a teacher and Freshman Basketball Coach, then Athletic Director and Assistant Principal, ending his career as Head Principal. He always enjoyed working with students. He also enjoyed hunting, camping, farming and working with construction. He was a member of Moreland Christian Church. He was a Mason for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harvey Baxter Candler (Betty) and Norris Breen Candler (Joyce).
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Catherine McAlister Candler; three children, Terri Candler Jamison (Steve), Michael Brent Candler Jr., and Susan Michelle Candler; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Jamison, Lezli Thomas Adams (Woods), Britney Thomas Nash (Zack), Ashley Candler Meadows (Ronnie), Holly Candler Higgins (Jonathan), Katlynn MacKenzy VanHoose, and Kody Hunter VanHoose; and eight great grandchildren, Kayden King, Bryce King, Hayven Meadows, Brooklyn Adams, Baylor Adams, Woodson Adams, Luka Nash and Leif Nash.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Sunday at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home by Rev. David Smith with burial in Hustonville Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m., Saturday with Masonic Service at 8 p.m.
