The last day for students in the Boyle County Schools will be May 31.

The Boyle County Board of Education approved the calendar change during a special meeting Thursday night, according to information posted on the district’s website.

According to the district’s website, since January, the district has had four non-traditional days and has missed eight school days. Archives of The Advocate-Messenger show that two were due to teachers calling in, and six due to snow days and student illness.

To make up for the days, the district added Feb. 19 and March 16 to the calendar for students, which were originally non-instructional days.

The district added the remaining days at the end of the school calendar.

Students will be off on May 28, which is Memorial Day and will attend school May 29-31. June 1 will serve as a staff development day for teachers and June 4 is closing day for teachers — students do not attend either of those days.

The Boyle County High School Site-Based Decision-Making Council has set the graduation date for students for 7:30 p.m. on June 1.
