Boyle County native Laura Guerrant has been named to the Boyle County Board of Education, filling a spot vacated by Jesse Johnson in December.
Guerrant said, “I am honored and really excited to serve in this capacity.”
The executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Bluegrass, Guerrant said she has a “passion for advocating for children.” Being a board member only furthers that, she said.
A graduate of Danville Independent Schools, Guerrant is a life-long resident of Boyle County. She said her husband, Ben, was a Boyle County graduate, and her son currently attends the Boyle County Middle School. The family lives in the Junction City area.
“To me, I look at (being a DHS grad) as an asset. I’ve participated on both sides of the aisle,” Guerrant said. “We’re lucky to have two great districts in our county.”
The board seat Guerrant takes is District 5, which covers the Junction City area and curves up to Gose Pike, she said. It will be up for grabs in November, and Guerrant said she plans to file for that position.
But between now and then, she said she has “a lot to learn.”
“I’m excited to learn,” Guerrant said.
Guerrant is an alumnus of Centre College and graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She also holds a certification in nonprofit management from Duke University, and previously served as the chair of the Kentucky CASA Network and as a member of the Children’s Justice Task Force.
She was sworn in at the April 12 board meeting.
