Tonight in downtown, the second Main Street Live event hits Weisiger Park, beside the courthouse. The Heart of Danville brings Lexington-based indie-rock band Isle of Eight to town to perform for the free event.

HOD debuted the new, once-a-month, downtown concert series in March, happening every third Thursday. In March, HOD brought Lauren Mink, a former American Idol contestant hailing from Winchester. Although the weather was chilly, Dustin Duvall — HOD’s office manager, says it was a great crowd.

“We had about 200 people come out (in March), which is great for a first-time event,” said Dustin Duvall, HOD office manager.

Beer will be for purchase from West Sixth Brewing, and wine will also be for sale.

Local vendor Provincial Market will be selling “charcuterie in a cone,” which is meat, cheese, fruit, olives and break in a portable cone, with the choice of an adult or kiddy cone. There’s even a cone available for the family dog.

Participants can bring chairs to set up, as well.

The event selects a different local, non-profit for each third-Thursday to partner with, in order to raise awareness and donations for local worthy causes. This month’s partner is the Community Arts Center.

Kate Snyder, marketing director, says they are hoping to have their new “Art Local” T-shirts for sale. The design is by creative director, Brandon Long, and is in the works of becoming a mural on the side of the Sherwin Williams paint store, near CAC on North Third Street.

The T-shirts are $10 and proceeds help the center fund its programming. Representatives will also be on hand with information about the center’s upcoming events, and accepting donations.

Sneak peek: For May’s Main Street Live, local singer and guitarist Mike Archer will play.

Then, Saturday, Lawn Chair Theater — another free event —  returns to Constitution Square with its big screen for a big movie. “Jumanji, Welcome to the Jungle” will be shown, and is rated PG-13. This is the kickoff event for the theater, which brings many with lawn chairs and blankets onto the historic site’s lawn for a night of family-friendly fun.

Popcorn and drinks will be sold and the proceeds go to fund downtown revitalization.
