Doggie Dash 5K run/walk this Saturday benefits shelter
Saturday April 28, the first ever Doggie Dash 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon at Millennium Park.
This Saturday join us from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Millennium Park in Danville for the Doggie Dash 5k Fun Run/Walk. You can register up to and on race day if you would like to participate. Entry fee is $35 through Friday, then $35 on race day — all proceeds go towards the development of an enrichment program at the Danville-Boyle County Humane Society. The program will develop training sessions and other experiences to increase the physical/mental health of the dogs at the shelter, making them more adoptable.
For those who don’t want to participate in the fun run/walk, adoptable dogs will be onsite at the park during the event.
Entry forms are available at Petsense, Danville Bike & Footwear and the DBCHS or you can sign up online at runsignup.com/Race/KY/Danville/DoggieDash5KFunRunWalk.
Wildflower walk at wildlife refuge
The Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge will host its second spring wildflower walk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 28. Participants should meet in the parking lot of the refuge, as this walk will NOT be on the Martha B. Clay Wildflower Trail; this walk will be on the Blue Trail and parts of the Circle Trail, where the habitats support different species than we see along the traditional wildflower trails.
The walk will be about a mile in length with a moderately steep climb. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes.
In case of inclement weather, check the refuge’s Facebook page for updates.
The Central Kentucky Wildlife Refuge is a 500-acre nature preserve located on the North Rolling Fork River in the knobs area of southwest Boyle County. CKWR is open daily to the public during daylight hours. In addition to about five miles of hiking trails, the refuge has a bird blind and a nature center (open during organized events and announced dates).
CKWR is a non-profit organization supported by donations and membership dues. For more information about the refuge or becoming a member, visit ckwr.org or the refuge’s Facebook page.
