Chief Running Elk (William T. Coffman), 68, of Stanford, KY, a descended Cherokee Native, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at home.

Born August 24, 1949, in Indian Creek, Casey County, KY to the late John Coffman and Madey Ethel Downs, and he was raised by his late step-father, William “Willie” Coffman. He worked as a carpenter for most of his life and enjoyed taxidermy for over 28 years. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, was active in Native American events, and was a member of Eagle Feathers Club.

Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Mary A. Coffman; his children, Kathy Coffman of Stanford, KY, Joe Clements of Berea, KY, and Angela Hart (Kevin) of Burgin, KY; two brothers, Jeff Coffman and Tim Coffman both of Liberty, KY; four sisters, Lilian Martin, Regenna Ray, Betty Hill, and Flossie Johnson; three grandchildren, Brittney Clements, Kennith Clements, and Tish Mosier; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and stepdad, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.

A one day service has been scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel, Stanford. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. with funeral service beginning at 8 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Buffalo Springs Cemetery on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 11 a.m.
