Boyle County has swept the 45th District regular season for the first time since 2008.

The Rebels took care of business against Lincoln County, beating the Patriots twice in Thursday’s doubleheader: 5-0 and 10-0 (five innings).

It was pitching that was strong throughout for the Rebels: Blake Samons shined in game No. 1, pitching a complete seven innings. He struck out nine batters and allowed just three baserunners in the victory.

“We mixed some guys in tonight and we hit the ball well,” Boyle head coach Kyle Wynn said. “But the three guys we tossed out there in those two games did what they needed to do. They threw strikes and the defense played well behind them.”

In game No. 2, Eli Glasscock earned the win, going three innings. He struck out three batters and gave up just one hit. Nate Smith closed the final two innings, striking out two batters while walking one.

Even though the Rebels had the No. 1 seed in the district wrapped up, Wynn and his coaches made it a point to their team to come out swinging against Lincoln.

“We kind of talked about that earlier in the week, even though things were in place going into this last series, it’s a good thing to get through district play undefeated,” he said. “It gives you some confidence, that first round in district, anyone can knock you off. We want confidence high going into that first round because that’s our first goal, winning that game and getting to region.”

Boyle (12-1) will next play this weekend in the Louisville Invitational Tournament.

The Patriots (2-15) host Pulaski County today and visit Mercer County tomorrow.
