Country breakfast this weekend

Danville’s Franklin Masonic Lodge will have a country breakfast 7- 10 a.m., Saturday, June 2, at the lodge hall, 400 N. 4 Street. Menu includes pork tenderloin, country ham, sausage, bacon, pancakes, eggs, potatoes, biscuits, gravy, coffee, orange juice and pastries. Everyone welcome!

African American genealogy group to host speaker

GEORGETOWN — The African American Genealogy Group of Kentucky (AAGGKY) is hosting national speaker Angela Walton-Raji from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16 at the Scott County Public Library, 104 South Bradford Lane in Georgetown.

Walton-Raji specializes in African American, Native American and African Native American history and genealogy. The sessions she will present include: nurses, matrons, laundresses and cooks – Documenting Black Women in the Civil War; mapping the Freedman’s Bureau; and finding Native American in African American families.

Cost is $25 for early registration which ends June 2, and $35 at the door. Early registration guarantees a continental breakfast, buffet luncheon and a genealogy grab bag. To register go to aaggky.org/seminar.

Timothy Pinnick, will also be offering books for sale from his collection – History and Genealogy Spotlight: African American Books and Programs.

Sunrise Children’s Services Ride & Shine

The June 23 Ride & Shine will tour classic Kentucky country roads and raise funds for historic Sunrise Children’s Services. This fifth annual biker event will also generate public support for Sunrise’s leadership and caregivers who care for an average of more than 1,000 clients every day.

Registration and check-in for the ride begins at 9 a.m. at Junction City First Baptist Church located at 3860 U.S. 127. Breakfast items will be provided. The rally will depart the parking lot of the church at 10:30 a.m. The bike route includes a stop and lunch at Sunrise’s Cumberland Adventure Program in Bronston and then back to Danville for a visit with the boys who live at Sunrise’s Woodlawn campus.
